Below is information on the goals and benefits of the IMBA. If you are interested in becoming a member, please print and mail this application page with dues payment to address below. If you have trouble printing the document please email imba.ri.org@gmail.com to receive a pdf version.
The Independent Marine Business Association (IMBA) is a non-profit corporation founded in the state of Rhode Island, USA in 2010. Its mission is:
· To promote independent marine service businesses that strive to maintain a high degree of standards through education and training;
· To develop best management practices that benefit the industry and protect the interests of member businesses and the boaters we serve;
· To encourage environmental stewardship by the Membership and the Association;
· To encourage and participate in lawful marine industry activities that promote a healthy economic environment for our members and educate customers in the safe and legal pursuit of the sport; and
· To promote legislation favorable to the marine repair industry, and to oppose any and all adverse legislation.
Member Benefits
The IMBA membership holds regular meetings to discuss important topics affecting the marine industry. Working committees, including Membership, Marketing, Best Practices, Legislative, and Bylaws, meet separately to form the framework of the organization and enable us to move forward with our initiatives and develop as a group. Annual Membership Dues*
Premier Member - $1000 – In addition to the benefits above, the Premier Member has an honorary, non-voting seat on the Board of Directors and can participate in open Board discussions. Premier members receive an enhanced listing on the web site and member directory, regular communications regarding industry issues, and can nominate and vote for Board Directors.
Professional Member - $250 – In addition to the benefits above, the Professional Member receives regular communications regarding industry issues, can receive an enhanced listing on the web site and member directory for a fee to be determined by the Board, and can nominate and vote for Board Directors.
Associate Member - $500 – The Associate Member is invited to membership meetings and IMBA events and receives a listing on the web site and member directory. The Associate Membership is open to companies who are not primarily engaged in mobile marine service, but who support the Rhode Island marine industry as well as the goals and eligibility requirements for independent marine businesses as set forth in this application and as consistent with the IMBA’s publicized positions. Marinas and boat yards who welcome the operation of IMBA members on their premises and who maintain work policies which are consistent with the IMBA’s publicized positions are encouraged to apply for a discounted membership of $350. Out of state independent marine businesses that meet the other membership criteria (besides being a registered RI company) are encouraged to apply for a discounted membership of $350.

A primary goal of the Independent Marine Business Association is to promote marine businesses, operating independently of a marina or boat yard, and striving to maintain a high degree of standards through education and training. In order to be eligible for membership in the IMBA, your company must meet the following eligibility requirements which are endorsed by the IMBA. Please check off each item that applies to your company and sign below.
q The primary function of my company is to provide repair and/or services to recreational vessels.
q A significant part of my company is involved with mobile service.
q My company meets the following liability insurance requirements as endorsed by IMBA: $1 Million per occurrence, $1 Million personal injury, $2 Million aggregate, $1 Million products, $5,000.00 medical expenses, and can provide documentation if requested.
q My company carries the appropriate amount of workers compensation insurance in accordance with state and federal law, and can provide documentation if requested.
q My company carries an adequate amount of automobile insurance in accordance with state and federal law, and can provide documentation if requested.
q My company and its employees abide by OSHA Right to Know laws and receive OSHA training as required by law, and can provide documentation if requested.
q My company and its employees receive training as it applies to its operation in accordance with RCRA and hazardous waste disposal, and can provide documentation if requested.
q My company is registered to do business in Rhode Island, and operates lawfully, including the paying of taxes and fees to State and Federal agencies in accordance with the law.
